What is Dr. Kirk's Equus?
Dr Kirks Equus is a premium range of nutritional feed supplements for horses, built for people who deal with horses in the real world, every day. Our family has been in the industry since the 1970s, we’ve got formal equine nutrition education behind the scenes, and we work with experienced formulators (including doctors) to create formulas that make sense in the feed room, not just on a label. Our products are not veterinary medicines and we don’t market them to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
Where are your products manufactured?
We’re Melbourne based, and orders are packed and dispatched from Melbourne, Australia. If you need batch specific details (ingredients, best before, lot number), email us and we’ll help.
Are your products safe for competition horses?
Our formulas use standard nutritional ingredients, and we don’t set out to include anything that belongs on a prohibited list. That said, competition rules vary (and they change), plus contamination risk exists across the entire feed industry. If you’re under racing, FEI, EA, or any governed program, you’re responsible for checking the rules that apply to your horse and your full feeding program. When in doubt, check with your vet and your governing body.
Products & ingredients
What products do you offer?
Right now we offer three core formulas: Gut Biome, Neuro-Calm, and Electrolyte. Each one is built around a clear job, gut consistency, calm readiness, and hydration support.
What quality standards do you follow?
We keep it simple and strict. We formulate with defined inclusion rates, source ingredients from established suppliers, and keep batch traceability so we know what went into each run. We also avoid “mystery blends” where you can’t tell what you’re actually feeding.
Do your products contain common allergens?
Horses don’t read allergen statements, but sensitive ones definitely react to certain ingredients. Some of our formulas contain yeast based ingredients, and some include carriers like lucerne or dextrose (depending on the product). If your horse has known sensitivities, check the ingredients section on the product page and the bucket label, and email us if you want help sanity checking your program.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Best before and batch details are printed on every bucket. Store in a cool, dry place, lid sealed, out of direct heat and moisture. So long as you treat it like feed, it holds up well
Dosage & usage
How much should I give my horse?
Dosage depends on the product and your horse’s size and workload. The exact feeding guide is listed on each product page and on the bucket label, that’s the one to follow. If you want a quick check, email us your horse’s weight, workload, and what else you’re feeding..
How do I administer the supplements?
Mix into a forage-based feed (chaff, soaked beet pulp, soaked pellets, cubes). Lightly dampening the feed helps reduce powder loss and improves consistency. Introduce gradually over 7 to 10 days unless your label says otherwise, and keep fresh water available at all times.
When will I see results?
Some things are immediate (electrolytes after heavy sweat, for example). Most nutrition changes show up as “consistency” first, then you start noticing the bigger wins over 7 to 14 days once the horse is on a stable daily routine. If you’re changing three things at once, you’ll never know what actually helped, so keep it clean.
Can I give my horse multiple Dr. Kirk's supplements?
Usually yes. Just keep the total program sensible. Don’t stack multiple magnesium products at high doses, don’t double up on multiple yeast or binder products without a reason, and always consider what’s already in your base feed. If you’re unsure, email us what you’re feeding and we’ll tell you if anything looks redundant.
Orders & payment
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept the payment methods shown at checkout, including major card options. If your preferred method isn’t showing, it’s usually a device or browser issue, try a different browser or contact us..
How do I track my order?
Once your order is dispatched you’ll receive a tracking email. If you can’t find it, check spam and promotions, then email us and we’ll resend the tracking link.
Shipping & delivery
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your delivery address and order size. We ship via Australia Post.
How long does shipping take?
We dispatch in-stock orders within 1 to 3 business days (excluding public holidays). After dispatch, delivery time depends on Australia Post and your location. Tracking is the most accurate source of updates.
Do you ship internationally?
If international shipping is available, it will appear as an option at checkout. If you don’t see it, we’re not currently shipping to that destination.
What if my package arrives damaged?
Email us as soon as possible and ideally within 7 days of delivery with clear photos of the outer packaging, inner packaging, the damaged product, and the shipping label if possible. We’ll sort out the fastest next step.
Returns & refunds
What is your return policy?
How do I return a product?
Email info@drkirks.com.au with your order number, full name, and the reason for return. If it’s damaged or faulty, include photos. We’ll reply with the correct return instructions. Please don’t send anything back without contacting us first.
How long does it take to process a refund?
Once approved, refunds are processed back to the original payment method. Timing after that depends on your bank or payment provider, most are quick, some take a few business days.
Wholesale & partnerships
Do you have a wholesale program?
Yes. We work with veterinary clinics, equestrian centres, and retail stores. Minimum order quantities may apply. Email info@drkirks.com.au with your business name, ABN, delivery address, and what products you’re interested in.
How do I become a wholesale partner?
Send us an email with your business details and a quick note on how you plan to stock or sell the range (clinic, retail, online, stable, team). We’ll reply with wholesale pricing and ordering info.
Can veterinarians recommend your products?
Vets can absolutely choose what they stock and what they consider appropriate as part of a broader nutrition and management plan. Our products are nutritional feed supplements, not veterinary medicines, and they’re not marketed to treat or prevent disease. For any suspected medical issue, your vet should be the first call.
